As part of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.’s continued commitment to health equity, community impact, and service, chapters are encouraged to participate in the NMDP Chapter Challenge: Alphas Save Lives.
Through this initiative, Alpha chapters will compete with one another to help patients receive life-saving cell therapy by increasing awareness, education, and participation in the NMDP Registry. Chapter participation requires a short 30-minute educational session, which may be hosted live or virtually, to help chapter members and campus peers learn more about NMDP and the importance of donor recruitment.
Chapters can earn points in two simple ways:
- Host a 30-minute educational session for campus peers to learn about NMDP. For each non-Alpha member in attendance, the chapter will receive 2 points.
- Encourage registry participants to respond to the post-recruitment text/email. The chapter’s response rate percentage will earn additional points — the higher the response rate, the more points earned.
The chapters with the most points between December 1, 2025 and September 15, 2026 will win. The top six performing Alpha Phi Alpha chapters will each receive a $1,000 grant, with additional VISA gift cards awarded to 7th, 8th, and 9th place chapters. Chapters must add a minimum of 30 new donors to be eligible for the grant awards.

Chapters are strongly encouraged to attend one of the upcoming Grant Program Informational sessions to learn how to participate, host an educational session, recruit donors, and maximize points.
